The Rabbits by John Marsden & Shaun Tan

I discovered this book in the childrens' section of the library. The imagery is what grabbed me – wonderfully distorted, nearly unrecognizable rabbits in their stiff stances, grand gestures, strange clothing, and Olde World accoutrements; the contrast in scale; the fine line work and gestured, textured underpainting. It blends dystopia and beauty, power and inevitability, nature and industry. The story is simply written but resonates, and the sentiment and voice reminds me of Neither Wolf Nor Dog.
